The Design Staff Development Center is an organization set up inside JIDPO on the basis of "New Design Policy in Response to Changes in the Times," a report submitted in 1993 by the Design Promotion Council, an advisory body to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
With the aim of getting rid of the gap between supply and demand affecting the field of design, the Design Staff Development Center is involved in activities in coordination with professional and academic bodies intended to train designers on an ongoing basis and to create an environment capable of continuous growth primarily through the medium of economic activities.

Design and Designers is issued as the journal of the Design Staff Development Center with the intentions of helping to foster designers and to give serious consideration to what basically the business of design should be all about. (The journal has discontinued publication at present.)
